We have built on the success of our latest financial results by investing £3m in a suite of new equipment and supporting technology to significantly enhance the quality and speed of our specialist communications services.
The investment, which commenced in January of this year, has since seen us add nine new pieces of major equipment across our Huddersfield and Nottingham production facilities, as well as significantly upgrading a further four of our existing lines.
This latest investment follows April’s announcement of a 52 per cent increase in EBITDA to £5.4m and a £1.7m increase in revenues to £71.4m for the year to 31 October 2019.
The move is in line with our strategy to invest in leading edge technology and remain at the forefront of our clients’ customer communications needs. Through a combination of digital, content services and print, we have the agility to maximise the effectiveness of all customer communications, while also minimising the environmental impact of both ours and our clients’ businesses.
The installation of three new market-leading Bluecrest Epic inserting lines and six Neopost folder inserters means we can now offer faster delivery of high-volume printed customer communication for large corporate businesses as well as a more versatile service for organisations requiring smaller, more varied outputs.
Thanks to our fully automated, high speed equipment, we can now process approximately 1.5 million mail packs per day. This not only gives our clients the comfort of knowing we can respond quickly to their needs, but that our greater reliance on automation enhances quality and compliance.
The new inserting lines were recently utilised when we successfully printed and processed nearly four million copies of the Prime Minister’s Covid-19 letter to the nation in late-March.
The reduced spoilage and increased flow provided by the new equipment has allowed us to reconfigure our factory to further maximise running time and accelerate speed of delivery. The installation and end-to-end testing of these new capabilities concluded in April.

The capital expenditure has also supported us in entering the next phase of our transformation journey by introducing greater interoperability between our sites in Huddersfield and Nottingham. This brings enhanced resilience and flexibility to our operation and is accompanied by a new management information platform which facilitates the data-driven optimisation of our machinery to further boost efficiencies.
Overall, the investment has allowed us to enhance our capabilities, drive operational excellence and continue to delight our clients. The resulting best-in-class machine efficiencies will also allow us to invest further in our digital transformation strategy.
